Falling in love has never been straightforward – and 17th-century composers captured every shade of joy and heartbreak. In “Cupid’s Arrow”, Lutesong Consort explores love’s delights and torments through a programme of expressive Italian love duets from (mostly) the 17th century.
Performed on period-appropriate instruments, the concert features music by Monteverdi, Strozzi, Sances, Kapsperger, Merula and Frescobaldi, and is presented by Lente Louw & Lusibalwethu Sesanti (mezzo-sopranos), Uwe Grosser (lute, baroque guitar) and Vera Vukovic (chitarrone)
From rapturous infatuation to longing and loss, these works reveal just how sharp Cupid’s arrow can be.
